Black Swan Workshop in Moscow on 04 Nov'08

I'm sometimes asked: could this ever be a wedding shoot? Well, let's sort things out then. Is this a fashion-style session? Yes. Do brides ever ware black gowns and veils? Once in a while - yes. Would they ever like to look a tad moody rather than "stomatologist pride" happy? Oh, yes! Then answer to the first question is: yes, this is another kind of wedding photography. The directed and artistic part of it, and perhaps (I hope) the most interesting set of pictures when it comes to direction style of photography. Tastes differ.

Ok. It was cold cloudy day and though Moscow Citi Center wasn't pretty much welcoming we broke the rules (well, the most insignificant points of them lol) and set up the "show". One curious thing I just want to mention - the second workshop in Autumn series it was and the second time there was a goddamned nationalists' "get-together" around the location (same thing happened in Kiev). Does anyone know how to make them get back off, away from my workshops? I should conceal the schedule probably LOL

Семинар и мастер-класс прошел в Москве 4-го ноября в рамках Второго форума свадебных фотографов и видеографов.

Башню Федераций уговорить так и не удалось, хотя были большие надежды, однако и пусть - мост Багратион не менее достойная замена. Речь кстати шла о свадбеной фотографии, и тут возникает вопрос: это свадебная съемка?

Разберемся по порядку. Это ли не стиль фэшн? Он. Бывают ли невесты в черных платьях? Некоторые любят эксперименты. Может ли на свадебном фото вместо вместо улыбок до ушей появляться задумчивые взгляды? Да. Тогда - чем не свадебное фото? Вопрос лишь в том, насколько мы хотим реализовывать то, что исходит изнутри, а не навязано порицающими окликами узкомыслящих прохожих.

Спасибо всем, кто посетил семинар. На этот раз он был сжатым, но организаторы сразу предупредили, что развернуто не получится. Поэтому, скажу сразу, полный, возможно, двухдневный семинар планируется, но даты пока определяются. Следите за анонсами на MyWed.

Seminar and Workshop in Kiev, Ukraine, on October 14 '08

I just want to say thank you, Kiev, for such warm welcoming and fantastic hospitality. Perhaps, that was just a coincidence - stunning weather, stunning models, attentive organizers, talented audience, beautiful venues... etc. But no - too many points made me think it was a trend. It was stunning Kiev all in all, with every stunning part of it.
I was pretty much flattered to have some top Ukrainian photogs attended the event. And it grows the more flattering as times goes by and I later find my pains and efforts having rubbed off on their pictures in their own unique way. Highly talented guys they are! That's when final satisfaction comes and I perceive - it was not for nothing, really.
Hope to be back in spring with some world-famous peers there. And that is going to be a good surprise for Ukranians! Check out some stuff I've done during the workshop.

Недавно (14 октября) провел семинар и мастер-класс в Киеве. Слишком много положительных эмоций наводят на мысль о том, что никакое это не совпадение: хорошая погода, красивые модели, теплый прием, внимательные слушатели и прочее... Это такой хороший Киев сам по себе :) Теперь понятно, почему многие мои друзья так часто отправляются на "киевские каникулы". Успел поесть простой украинской кухни - не ожидал, (хотя и слышал не один раз, про то как украинцы любят вкусно покушать) что этонастолько вкусно! Успел сходить к стоматологу, побывать на Майдане и Крещатике, почти поучаствовал в противостоянии восточной и западной Украины. Обошлось без жертв! :))
Благодарю всех присутствовавших на семнаре, особое спасибо Дану Хечо за слаженную организацию и заботу в течение всех пяти дней пребывания! Очень надеюсь приехать в следующем году и поделиться еще большим опытом и секретами.

Circle of concrete

It was not the first time I traveled around the Third Circular highway within Moscow looking for urban backgrounds. I've looked through stats on the "infinite freeway" and figured out it to have seventeen sophisticated multi-level crosses which is in sooth a unique resource of endlessly differing "urbanica" in the viewfinder of my camera, the resource that will never exhaust itself, not in my life leastways. Ok.
This was merely a piece of the Circle, and we hadn't walked further than hundred feet from the first spot, it was all there - sunset, city, water, cars, sky... whatever. Have to admit: for once the couple played into the hands of me, in the end they acted so easily that I couldn't but shoot till the flashcard had said "I'm done!" and that was kind of a mystic sign "Enough, it's late".
For sure - in a short while I'll be there to have other hidden beauties revealed in front of my lens.

Кутузовский проспект подтверждает свой высокий статус даже на безобидных развязках: шикарные гранитные рекреации с фонтанами, по обе стороны проспекта, практически круглосуточно пустующие, а потому вдвойне притягивающие к себе фотографа. Вот когда "неразумное использование городского бюджета" не может не радовать – съемочная площадка полностью в моем распоряжении. Несколько десятков метров вниз открытый выход на островок посреди оживленной трассы. Еще ниже – Москва река с видом на Сити. Рядом – сталинская архитектура и современные здания – редкое изобилие антуражей на небольшой площади. А если учесть, что протяженность кольца – 36 километров, на пути которых встречается 17 транспортных развязок, то ТТК можно спокойно называть неисчерпаемым источником творческих идей для тех, кто вдохновлен урбанистическим портретом.

Good news!

It's been a long time since I posted last (was shooting like crazy), so I've got a lot to share. Ok, let's see what I've been up to these days.
First of all - I've won annual summer wedding contest arranged by ASFO (Russian Wedding Photographers Association, sorry, abbreviation won't coincide). I was awarded for the documentary shot (not quite typical of mine though - I'm rather a glamour shooter) with Grand Prix. Oh my God! Still I'm pretty proud of the bowl, for all that for some reason it hasn't arrived in my hands yet :)

Давно не обновлял блог, поэтому есть о чем рассказать. Итак:
Неожиданным образом получил Гран При на летнем конкурсе свадебной фотографии АСФО (Ассоциация Свадебных Фотографов). Неожиданность в том, что я все же больше гламурщик, а первое место, да еще и Гран При пролучил за исключительно репортажный снимок. Но все равно - приятно не передать как, спасибо коллегам за признание (судили победители прошлого конкурса). Я вот все думаю, а где же мой кубок? Не переплавили ли его на цветмет в АСФО? :)

Ok, what's next. Secondly - I was highly honored to be presented to wedding photography society by the famous Lights of worldwide wedding industry - Joe Buissink and Yervant. Along with three more, extremely talented Russian photogs (and that was flattering to find myself amidst them too) I was all edgy - "What are they going to ask me and what am I going to answer?". It was Joe's "Why weddings?" first. I came up with a quick answer "Cause I love sharing myself, my happiness with those happy people, who gift their happiness to me in return." Since then I've perceived one thing - I sell myself - my vision, my skills and crucially, my one-day-friendship (which often evolves into many-years-friendship though), but photos are for all that gifted. Like "Hey, I am your friend, ain't I? Why should I sell it to my friends? This is disreputably!" :)

Дальше - больше. Нежиданным образом (ну не ждал я этого) - оказался на сцене вместе с великими и могучими фотографического мира сего - Еравнтом и Джо Бьюсинком. Не менее польстила и компания, в которой я был представлен как "Молодая звезда российской фотографии" - Саша Кладов, Леша Гайдин и Костя Андрюхин. Интересно, что с нами будет дальше - через 10 лет, как спросил Джо о свадебной фотографии в целом...

The third point is that a series of workshops of mine are going to come about soon and the most exciting one will take place in October whilst Second International Wedding Photography Convention in Moscow (you're seriously welcomed!). Details are coming later.

Третья новость - надеюсь, будет интересна фотографам. Планируется целая серия моих мастерклассов по съемке и обработке фотографий, в том чис и в рамках Второго международного форума Свадебных фотографов и видеографов в Москве.

And the last thing (oh come on Arty, none of your vanity, cut it out, please! lol) - I'm pleased to be a MyWed top-list wedding photographer. The pleasure is as high as it is defined by recognition from the registered peers.
